Ayla Spaans is a Amsterdam-based director with a sharp eye for sferic settings, playful movements and a vintage touch. She directed short-films, music videos, commercials and a children series. Her work is bright, colorful and always made with a deeper meaning and a sense of humor. Ayla wants to connect people through her art, and loves to explore themes such as friendship, family and (self-)love. Her lifelong fascination for writing, filming and creating began in the comfort of her own home: she grew up in a family of ten and always felt the need to express her feelings through crafts and imagery. With a background in fashion and film, Ayla's evolved as a great set-curator, resulting in high quality stylish concepts.
In September 2019, Ayla debuted with her short film "When We Were Strangers" at Nederlands Film Festival. In 2020, she released two more shorts films: "About Two Girls" and "A Boring Day in Hell”. These shorts got noticed and selected for multiple international festivals including Shortcutz, Berlin Commercial, La Jolla and The CinéFashion Film Awards, and won Shortcuts best experimental film. Ayla has done successful creative collaborations with big brands such as Chupa Chups, Samsung, Keune and Bols. Her work is represented by international media agencies such as Cake, Caviar and Diktator. Ayla’s currently working on her first children series "Rakhi & Peppe" for the NPO, which will air in 2022.
